Not just surface modeling! Redefine ergonomic mouse design
NINEIDEA: Nowadays, when searching for “ergonomic mouse”, most of the products presented have distorted shapes, resembling someone doing yoga. “Ergonomics” is originally a discipline that studies the interaction between humans and products, covering many variables. However, most products claiming to be ergonomically designed for mice only focus on curved shapes.
The Squishy Mouse designed by designer Matt Barnum is different. It gives a new connotation to “ergonomics” – reinterpreting this concept with a soft and breathable design.
The unique aspect of Squishy Mouse lies in its broader understanding of ergonomics. Products such as comfortable ergonomic chairs and well-fitting sneakers rely not only on elegant curves, but also on a soft touch and good breathability. Following this logic, Squishy Mouse discards the inherent perception that “a curved hard shell is ergonomics”. Its body adopts a curved grid structure, with a soft touch reminiscent of the 3D printed soles of Adidas AlphaEdge and Futurecraft 3D running shoes.
This design is not only intended to fit the shape of the palm, but more importantly, to enhance comfort and breathability during use.
The Squishy Mouse feels similar to a stress ball, with a firm yet not rigid grip; the mesh surface provides excellent heat dissipation, so even after hours of continuous use, the palm won’t feel stuffy. With the Squishy Mouse, ergonomics finally breaks away from the misconception that “the shape must be contorted” and returns to the essence of “making people feel comfortable when using”.
